今日のテキスト DOLPHIN DECISION MADE

A Japanese zoo association made a key decision that determines its future. It'll revise how to acquire dolphins and stay with a global zoo body. It was facing expulsion from the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The world body has been urging the group not to purchase animals captured through a fishing method known as drive fisheries.
The board members of the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums, or JAZA, made the decision on the issue. Sources say a majority of member facilities wanted the association to remain part of the world body.
JAZA member aquariums had nearly 300 dolphins by the end of 2012. Many were captured through drive fisheries off the town of Taiji in western Japan. Officials with the world body argue that Japanese facilities obtained dolphins in a way that runs counter to international ethical rules, and they suspended JAZA's membership a month ago. It gave the group until Thursday to present measures to address the issue, or be expelled.
