今日のテキスト JAPANESE SCIENTIST SHARES NOBEL

People around the globe have seen another Japanese win one of the world's most prestigious prizes, for a second day in a row. Takaaki Kajita shares the Nobel in Physics with Canadian Professor Emeritus Arthur McDonald. The two physicists showed that neutrinos have mass. The neutrino is a subatomic particle that's a fundamental constituent of all matter.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences says that both physicists have contributed to experiments that showed neutrinos change identities. The academy members say this phenomenon requires that neutrinos have mass. They say the discovery has changed our understanding of the innermost workings of matter and could alter how we see the universe.
The members say Kajita discovered that neutrinos from the atmosphere switch between two identities. He observed neutrinos at a facility in Japan called Super Kamiokande that's situated deep underground. His finding surprised researchers around the world. It has disproved an established theory that neutrinos have no mass.
