今日のテキスト GROUND SWELLS IN RESTRICTED AREA

Japanese experts say they have confirmed that the ground has swelled up in a restricted area of Mount Hakone since increased volcanic activity was observed there last month. The Meteorological Agency has warned of possible small eruptions and falling rocks around the area.
Officials at the Geospatial Information Authority based their findings on data collected by a ground observation satellite. They compared measurements taken on Friday with others taken on April 17th, before the increased seismic activity began. They found that the land had risen up to 12 centimeters in the southwestern part of a 100-meter-radius area in the Owakudani valley. The experts say that ground around the center of the no-go area has also been thrust upward by as much as 10 centimeters. They say the upthrust could be related to continuous localized swelling at shallow depths. Officials prohibited entry to the area after an increase in the number of minor earthquakes on the volcano.
