今日のテキスト EU TO ALLOW DRIED BONITO AT EXPO

The European Union has granted Japan's appeal to use a type of dried fish at the Milan World's Fair that starts from May.
Shavings of dried bonito, known as katsuobushi, are used to make soup stock in Japanese cuisine. But the European Union bans imports of this dried fish because of its production method that breaches EU regulations. But the EU and the Italian government approved the request from Japan's agriculture ministry. It's an exceptional case, in time for this year's expo, the theme of which is food.
The Japanese ministry hopes to use the event as an opportunity to promote Japanese "washoku" cuisine worldwide. It's providing financial support to dried bonito makers to help them find ways to comply with EU standards and begin exports to the region.
