今日のテキスト THREE JAPANESE RECEIVE PHYSICS MEDALS

The award ceremony for other Nobel Prizes has been held in the Swedish capital, Stockholm. This year, three Japanese-born scientists received the prize in physics.
Professor Isamu Akasaki of Meijo University, Professor Hiroshi Amano of Nagoya University, and Professor Shuji Nakamura of the University of California, Santa Barbara, won the prize for their contribution to the development of the blue light-emitting diode, or LEDs.

"You have been awarded the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics for your invention of efficient blue light-emitting diodes, which has enabled bright and energy-saving white light sources."

Swedish King Carl Gustaf handed the medals to the scientists. A member of the Nobel Committee praised them for their efforts in creating gallium nitride crystal, which allowed for the development of blue LEDs. She says blue LEDs are environmentally friendly and can be found lighting up streets and homes around the world.
