今日のテキスト CATALANS CAST SYMBOLIC VOTES

More than two million people in the Spanish region of Catalonia have voted in an unofficial independence referendum.
Sunday's vote took place despite efforts by the central government to stop it. Spanish government officials had asked the Constitutional Court to block the referendum. The court ordered the vote be suspended until it reached a decision, but regional leaders in Catalonia insisted the referendum was the citizens' initiative. The voting ended at 8 PM local time without major incident. Ballot counting began right away.

"Despite these very difficult conditions, the harsh conditions under which we have organized this day in Catalonia, we have voted."

Mas said if the results show many Catalans support independence, he will demand a legally binding referendum. Regional government officials say that with nearly 90 percent of the ballots counted, more than three-quarters voted in favor of independence. Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has been opposed to holding an official referendum.
