McDonald's has opened its first outlet in Vietnam, making it the 120th country where the U.S. fast food giant has a presence.
The restaurant in central Ho Chi Minh City was crowded with families on opening day on Saturday. The cheapest hamburger costs 25,000 dong, or about one dollar 20 cents, while a "Big Mac" sells for about two dollars 90 cents. They are more expensive than an average lunch in the city.
Other foreign fast food chains had already entered Vietnam, but McDonald's says it's the first in the country to operate around the clock or to provide a drive-through service.

"It's good to have an outlet that's always open. It will add further vitality to Ho Chi Minh City."

The chairman of the local franchisee says it took a long time to open the first restaurant. He says he wants to quickly expand and make the fast food service available to many people.
