A U.S. judge has ordered a painting bought for seven dollars at a flea market to be returned to the museum where it was stolen. Experts say it's the work of the French impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. It disappeared more than 60 years ago.
Renoir painted the landscape of the River Seine in 1879. A woman in Virginia put it up for auction in 2012 after she purchased it at a flea market. Experts at the National Art Gallery and other art houses examined the work to verify its authenticity. They confirmed that it was stolen from the Baltimore Museum of Art in Maryland in 1951. The landscape is said to be worth at least 22,000 dollars.
The woman who bought the painting says she's disappointed by the ruling. She has yet to announce whether she will appeal it.
